New York 1945 VJ Day The Kiss
Alfred Eisentaedt & Victor Jorgensen
“While many servicemen and women were photographed this day, Alfred Eisenstaedt’s photograph of the sailor kissing the nurse became the icon. VJ Day Times Square has been a resounding symbol of why love triumphs war and how America found relief in the silence of the guns.”
Any hopeful romantics out there will agree – this is a beautiful timeless photograph. It was taken sixty-five years ago, apperantly hours(NYTimes eyewitness acount of a background nurse in the photo) before Japan accepted defeat.
